Cover Gallery: Other DC Swamp Creatures
Here are the covers to several DC Comics stories featuring characters surprisingly similar to Swamp Thing in both appearance and manner. It's interesting to note that all came out in the early 1970s, around the time Swamp Thing first debuted in House of Secrets 92, and that Swamp Thing co-creator Bernie Wrightson drew several of these other creatures.
Although these stories are not directly connected to the Swamp Thing's history, I have included them here and in the timeline because they just seem to fit. In fact, The Phantom Stranger #14 was revisited during Len Wein's Swamp Thing run, which featured a sequel to that tale. If you know of any I've overlooked, feel free to contact me and I'll add them.
NOTE: Since Solomon Grundy has been worked into Swamp Thing lore, his appearances are excluded.

Thanks to Joe Bongiorno, who first dragged me kicking and screaming into the mucky mythos of the Swamp Thing, and to artist Paul Giachetti, who created the amazing banner for me.
Thanks also to the reader known as 'Alec Holland,' whose support has been invaluable; Mike Sterling for promoting Swamp Thing and this site whenver he can; and Kevin Church for his excellent advice on improving this site.
Moreover, my thanks to Len Wein, Bernie Wrightson, Alan Moore, John Totelben, Stephen Bissette, Jamie Delano, Garth Ennis and all the other creators whose work inspired me to create this Web site. |
