Thanks to Joe Bongiorno, who first dragged me kicking and screaming into the mucky mythos of Swamp Thing, and to Paul Giachetti, who created the amazing header banner.
Thanks also to reader 'Alec Holland,' whose support has been invaluable; Mike Sterling, for promoting Swamp Thing and this site; and Kevin Church, for his excellent optimization advice.
And thanks to Len Wein, Bernie Wrightson, Alan Moore, John Totelben, Stephen Bissette, Jamie Delano, Garth Ennis and all the other creators whose work inspired this site. |

Bog Blogging: Recent Postings About Swamp Thing by Rich Handley June 11, 2010
I've got only a few minutes to post today, so I wanted to suggest a few recent blog postings elsewhere on the Web that you might find interesting:
- "The Caffeins Is Strong in This One"—Mike Sterling, my fellow swamp-nerd over at Progressive Ruin, offers his perspective on the whole "Vertigo Versus DC" debate, wisely noting, "I don’t care about the reasons, just bring me more Swamp Thing comics. Of any kind. And make it snappy." Well said, Mike. And please bring them to me as well.
- "Warwick University Lecturer China Miéville on His Swamp Thing Comic"—David Bentley, over at Coventry Telegraph's "The Geek Files" column, discusses the recent news of China Miéville's Swamp Thing series being canceled five issues into production.
- "China Miéville and Swamp Thing... No More!"—Broken Frontier's Steven Surman weighs in on the Miéville situation, saying, "Now we’ll never know what Miéville could have done with such a rich yet often under/misused character. Way to go, DC. This is one hell of a mess."
- "A Ghost Dressed in Weeds: My Life-long Obsession With Swamp Thing"—Bill "Saucerman" Adcock of BloodSprayer.com offers a followup to Brian Solomon's witty Man-Thing appreciation essay, expressing his love for the (clearly superior) Swamp Thing. "I mean no disrespect towards Man-Thing, the Heap or any other creature made of pondscum and moss," he writes. "But Swampy’s been my hero for almost two decades. And ain’t nothing’s gonna change that." You said it, bruthah.
- And in case you missed it, check out Stephen R. Bissette's recollections of issues #35 to 42 of the famed second Swamp Thing series, as well as Dean Blumberg's two-part "It's Not Easy Being Green" essay.
Althought Bentley's post offers little new beyond what had previously been posted here, I still want to give him a shout-out along with Surman, to thank them both for crediting Roots of the Swamp Thing as the source of the story details from Miéville's canceled series. I've seen a few other sites out there presenting the exact bulleted list Miéville provided to this site, without mentioning Roots as the source. It's slightly frustrating when that happens, particularly when the perpetrator is a popular comics journalist. I'm just sayin'...
